(Article taken from MOE website)

Your child’s step up from preschool to primary school is filled with changes. Learn about the challenges and how to help your child make the transition.

Help your child to understand the changes

Share with them what primary school is about and what they can expect. Some of the changes your child will face include:

Adapting to a new environment

Bring your child to the school’s open house and tour the grounds to familiarise them to the new environment. If you’re not able to attend the open house, show your child pictures of the school and check out the school’s website together.

Starting a new routine and timetable

In starting a new routine, it is important to talk to your child about what happens every day, such as getting ready for school, playing with peers and setting time aside for homework. This can help your child settle in better.

And unlike preschool, there will be new subjects and a different timetable. Show your child how to pack their school bag for the days’ lessons and help them adapt to the changes slowly.
